Pearly pulls up outside August's trailer on the outskirts of Bloomington in her baby blue Camaro. The entire park rattles with the sound of the bass, which abruptly ends when she opens her door and gets out. Her hair is wild and windblown, only barely held back by her gigantic white glitter sunglasses. She frowns at the state of the yard, kicking a plastic pop bottle out of her way with one platform-sandaled foot. A couple of teenage boys watch her walk up to the door, mesmerized by the swaying motion of her hips, tightly encased in cutoff denim shorts, and the twinkle of her navel ring, exposed by her Harley Davidson half-top. As she passes, they gawk with mouths open and watch her let herself into the trailer.

AUGUST! Ain't you ready yet?

August comes out of his room, he's tied his long hair into a pony tail and is spraying some cologne on.

I just got to put on some shoes calm down

He gits in his chair and starts tying a pair of lugz

Pearly checks herself in the mirror over the couch, reapplying her red lacquer lipstick and dabbing yet another layer of kohl-black mascara onto her eyelashes.

You look nice, baby. And don't you worry 'bout gettin' in trouble with Miss Sunshine... Me an' her have us an understanding.

An understandin'? Well now that is good to now.

He stands up and straightens his jeans then walks to the door and opens it.

She walks out and heads for August's bike. Pearly reaches into one of the saddlebags and finds a do-rag with which she restrains her hair. She waits for August to get on the bike before she does.
